Forschungsgebiete
My research focuses on developing disease-modifying therapies for neurological disorders caused by neurodegeneration, particularly proteinopathies and synucleinopathies, or neuronal dysfunction, such as dystonia. We characterize animal models and investigate disease mechanisms to identify novel therapeutic targets, followed by pre-clinical drug studies. Specific interests include infectious agents as triggers of proteinopathies in the peripheral and central nervous systems; the prion-like spread of α-synuclein pathology; interactions between the peripheral immune and nervous systems; and molecular pathways underlying sex differences.
